This MLK Day, Greater DC Cares has a special opportunity for Ward 7 residents!

Plummer Elementary School

Plummer Elementary School serves 214 elementary school students. At Plummer, the goal is to help students be S.M.A.R.T.: Studious, Methodical, Articulate, Responsible and
Talented. Upon graduation, they want students to have the self-confidence and self-esteem that will support continued learning and improvement through middle school, high school and beyond. In addition to our rigorous core curriculum, our students participate in a variety of extracurricular activities. They also offer a Parent Academy at Plummer with workshops that teach parents and guardians how to become empowered advocates for their children.

Volunteers will help to create a bright and asthetically pleasing learning enviornment for students by painting the main floor and creating book cover murals on canvasses to be placed around the school. Volunteers will also create a sign and paint the school's "Powerful Parent Resource Room."

Location: 4601 Texas Avenue SE Washington, DC 20019

When: Monday, January 17, 2010

Time: Volunteers should arrive at 9:30 AM to begin work at 10 AM.
